Commit

The best way to grow to love yourself is to build a good relationship with yourself. You build a good relationship with yourself the same way you build a relationship with anyone else- You make time for them. You keep your commitment. You’re dependable and trustworthy.

Say you and your friend have plans to meet at 5:30 every morning to workout; and you show up only half of the time. Your relationship with that person is going to suffer. He/she is probably going to get tired of you flaking, and they’ll eventually find another workout partner.  The same is true for ourselves. When we don’t keep our commitments to our self, the relationship with our self suffers.

Do you show up for yourself the same way you do for a friend?  Go out of the way for yourself, the same way you’d go the extra mile for your best friend, and keep your commitments to yourself. Maybe that means you need to commit to less, to go smaller. For example, maybe you commit to workout just two days a week instead of everyday.  You can always over-deliver. When the time comes, and you don’t feel like doing it, you do it anyway because you said you would. Just show up. You’ll thank yourself later, I promise.
