Joyfully Lean

The photo on the left was me three years ago, I was clearly carrying a few extra pounds, but what most people didn’t see was how I felt on the inside. I was really struggling with who I was and what my life had become. Not only did I feel terrible mentally I also felt terrible physically.

The photo on the right is me now. Big difference, huh? The past three years have been a metamorphosis for me. So many people have asked me what I did and how I changed. The whole purpose of this website, A Joyful You, is to share just that.

Over the course of this month, I’ll be sharing all the tools I used to lose 40 pounds all without having to diet and exercise. Some of these will blow your mind because they’re not your stereotypical weight loss tips. Before we dig in, let me share a little more of my journey with you.

I struggled with food for a long time. I would definitely call myself a “user”.  I used food to entertain myself, to keep me company when I was lonely, and I used it to help me deal with all the ups and downs of life.

I’ve never really carried a ton of extra weight. At my heaviest, I was 50 pounds overweight. The bigger problem for me was what food did to my health. Along with the excess weight, I started experiencing some health issues. Things like brain fog, body aches, hair loss, thyroid problems, fatigue, headaches, depression, and moodiness, just to name a few. I was miserable. I looked for answers and went from doctor to doctor and prescription to prescription, but nothing helped. I did however manage to gain 30 pounds of excess weight. Instead of going from doctor to doctor and prescription to prescription, I was now going from diet to diet. Again, nothing was working. I’d lose a few pounds here and there, but once I went off the diet, I’d eventually gain it all back and then some.

My last attempt to lose the extra weight was to do a popular elimination diet. I eliminated dairy, grains, sugars, soy, and legumes for 30 days. This meant that the majority of my diet was fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds, and a little meat. At the end of the 30 days, I had lost the expected weight, but to my surprise, I felt better than I had in years. My mind was clear, my hormones were balanced, I had no more aches and pains, my complexion was clear, and best of all my mood was pretty even keel. I had energy and I was sleeping well. I felt like a new person.

I immediately wanted to know everything there was to know about food and weight loss, and the role they play in our health. I took classes, read books, got certified, and experimented on myself a lot. As I experimented and applied the principles I was learning, I found myself getting healthier as well as thinner. I realized that diets don’t work. If I wanted permanent changes, I needed to make permanent changes to the way I ate and my lifestyle.

I’m thrilled to share everything I’ve learned with you.

Over the course of this month, I’ll be teaching you:
*Why we overeat and how to stop
