How to Have Your Own Back
I just finished teaching a class for the Life Coach School and I thought you might like it too.
It was all on How to Have Your Own Back, So You Can Achieve Anything.
If you have a goal you’re trying to accomplish, like losing weight, you need to learn how to have your own back so you won’t give up and quit when the ups and downs come – cause you know they’re going to come!
Here are 3 Steps to Having Your Own Back:
- PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR INNER TALK – Having your own back has everything to do with your relationship with yourself. Any relationship including the one we have with ourselves is just our thoughts. If we think unkind thoughts about ourself we produce feelings of doubt, defeat, and worthlessness. These thoughts create a breeding ground for unkind actions – maybe we talk down to ourself, or we compare ourself to others, or we seek outside validation, or quit on ourselves. We think if we’re mean and beat ourselves up it will motivate us to try harder, but as you can see, it has the opposite effect. Be kind to yourself. Stop beating yourself up. This is the first step to Having Your Own Back.
- ENJOY THE RIDE – When you’ve worked towards a goal have you stopped to enjoy the process or have you been in such a hurry to get there you forgot? When we enjoy the journey along the way, we’re not in a hurry. We’re not comparing how we do it to how others have done it. You do you. You don’t need to try to mimic anyone else. What worked for them probably won’t work for you. Do it your way. Also- be willing to feel all the feels. Being willing to feel nervous, scared, doubt, humiliation propels us into action. We can be nervous and do it anyways.
- TRUST YOURSELF AND KEEP GOING – Trust that you have what it takes to succeed. It’s okay to fail your way there. Failure is just how you grow and learn. It doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you. As you work towards your goal, you can either try, fail, and quit or you can try, fail, try again, and triumph. It’s your choice.
