Your Past
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever heard is from Dan Sullivan, who said:
“You get to take from your past what you want and you get to leave the rest of it behind.”
Are you beating yourself up for past mistakes? Berating yourself for things that you did or didn’t do or things you allowed to happen to you?
Spending most of your time in your past can be very painful.
It doesn’t matter if it’s 20 years ago or just a few days ago.
Revisiting the past is usually not helpful.
Remember the past is over. What’s done is done.
We can’t change the past, no matter how badly we want to.
What we can change is our story of the past.
And the story you’re telling about your past depends on what you’re choosing to focus on.
This matters because your story is creating your current thinking, your current feelings, and your current actions.
Are you choosing to focus on all the things that didn’t work out, or the things that did?
Everything is relative.
You can look at your past life however you would like.
I prefer to look at my past through the lens of “Everything happened exactly as it was supposed to so I could have the life I’m meant to have.”
You can be free from your past, when you choose to change your story.
